Bringing satellite-based emissions intelligence to the petroleum industry
Momentick has joined the Aiming For Zero Methane Emissions Initiative, strengthening the company’s collaboration with the oil and gas industry.
By providing global, satellite-based greenhouse gas emissions intelligence to the program's signatory members, Momentick advances its mission to drive rapid abatement, starting with methane.
Methane - the quickest win for the climate
According to the International Energy Agency, methane is responsible for roughly one third of global warming to date and has made the second-largest contribution to climate change after carbon dioxide. The energy sector has contributed 40% of those emissions.
Eliminating non-emergency methane flaring and venting from O&G operations is the single most impactful and cost-effective means to cutting over 20% of global human methane emissions and slowing global warming in the near term.
Aiming For Zero rallies the world's leading operators
The initiative, launched by the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative in 2022, aims to eliminate the industry's methane emissions by 2030. OGCI is a CEO-led effort comprising 12 leading oil and gas companies focused on accelerating action to a net zero future consistent with the Paris Agreement.
Supporters of Aiming for Zero commit to applying state-of-the-art methane monitoring and measurement technologies, reporting transparently, and advancing the implementation of sound regulations. Working closely with supporting companies like Momentick ensures reductions can be implemented swiftly.
Momentick is a game changer for decision makers and ESG teams
Using multiple satellite constellations and proprietary artificial intelligence algorithms, Momentick can detect methane surges at any time, anywhere on the globe. The ability to autonomously detect unlit flares and leaks as they begin means response can be timely. Thanks to precise quantification and report generation capabilities, Momentick is becoming an essential tool supporting decision making and reporting, without adding headcount or hardware integration hassles.
“We have overcome some key technological challenges, and are keen on offering those to our partners in the oil and gas industry. The Aiming For Zero Methane Emissions Initiative is precisely the platform through which we can help a multitude of operators not only detect, but accurately quantify fugitive methane. This is a game changer, enabling prioritization and informed decision making. We are delighted to join the program.“ Momentick CEO and Co-Founder, Daniel Kashmir
